The Eurovision Contest was targeted by hackers, with Italian police revealing that pro-Russian groups were behind the attack

Authorities say the hacking attempts occurred during Tuesday’s Semi-final and Saturday’s final of the song contest.

The police cybersecurity department blocked multiple cyber attacks that occurred during voting and the performances.

The “Killnet” and “Legion” hacker groups were found to be behind the attempts.

Police investigated the Russian group’s Telegram channels, finding key details including locations, that helped them to stop other critical events.

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won the Eurovision contest, performing folk hip-hop song Stefania, a song that has now become an anthem for war-torn Ukraine.

Killnet claimed other attacks that occurred on May 11, targeting the Italian government and other institutions.

Western countries have become more wary of possible cyber attacks since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine at the end of February.
