Amazon to stop accepting U.K. Visa credit cards from January 19

Published

on

Since Brexit, the U.K. is no longer restricted by EU-enforced caps on fees charged by card issuers

From January 19 the company will be rejecting cards issued in the U.K. due to high credit card transaction fees.

Amazon says they are only “striving to provide the best prices for customers” but Visa debit cards will continue to be accepted.

The company insists that advances in technology should be driving costs down “but instead… [transaction fees] continue to stay high or even rise”…. with no benefits to users.

Visa says they are “very disappointed that Amazon is threatening to restrict consumer choice in the future”.

Amazon is providing incentives for shoppers switching from Visa to an alternative payment method by offering 20 pounds to Prime customers and 10 pounds for others.
