A SpiceJet plane faced some severe turbulence on Sunday, injuring 17 people on board

The Indian airline’s Boeing 737 was carrying about 200 passengers and crew while traveling from Mumbai to Durgapur.

A passenger recalls that the turbulence began 35 minutes before the plane was scheduled to land.

As the plane descended the turbulence worsened with the aircraft bouncing up, down and sideways.

Passenger who forgot to fasten their seatbelts reportedly flew up from their seats hitting the overhead baggage bins.

India’s civil aviation regulator will investigate the incident but released a statement saying the plane experienced “severe turbulence” during descent with the auto pilot being disengaged for “two minutes” meaning the crew manually flew the aircraft.
