1 million deaths – U.S. hits grim milestone

It’s been two years since the first case was reported, and life across the country hasn’t been the same since.

The figure represents about one death for every 327 Americans, and is more than the entire population of San Francisco or Seattle.

On March 11 2020 the World Health Organisation declared the virus a pandemic, and by then Covid had already claimed 36 lives in the United States.

In the months that followed, it spread like wildfire.
